Today was the first day back at school, and for Stella the first day of Primary School. After all of the children had been dropped off, we caught up with an old friend (who the girls have known for years) Luca Sacchi for a very quick coffee, before we headed to Milano Centrale to catch our train to Torino.
Once at Milano Centrale, we very quickly realised that not only were we at the wrong station, but also that Ava had successfully left her new camera, smart new Hong Kong hand bag and various other bits in Claudia's car - already departed. Luckily we are seeing Carlo and Claudia again in Venice....
It was so hot, and the girls were great - we bought a new ticket, for departure an hour later, caught the Metro to Stazione Garibaldi, and then (successfully) caught our train to Torino, to be met at the station by a friend, Giorgio, whom we met through Luca years ago, before the girls were born, in Melbourne. (Giorgio is a journalist with Tutto Sport and follows Ferrari and Formula 1 to Melbourne every year).
We then headed home briefly to meet Giorgio's wife, Daniela, and then out for a quick tour of Torino, an icecream and then to a friend's daughter's 10th birthday party - where they girls all played beautifully together despite the obvious language barriers. Very proud of my girls who are really going full speed ahead with their attempts to communicate in Italian. They had a ball.
Home for dinner together with Mariangela, the mother of a friend of ours, also Giorgio, who died of a brain tumour a couple of years ago. I'd missed her during a recent trip to Melbourne, so it was a lovely surprise.
The girls are having a fantastic time, and I'm loving seeing old friends......and speaking only Italian.
more photos on facebook - no surprises there.....

Darling Sal, only you can organise a lift to the wrong train station, leave stuff in the car, miss the train but still manage to turn it into fun. You could get Claudia to put it in the post to Rome. It's 2 weeks before Venice! Looks like Clouds has grown again. Love the drumhead summary everyday before the photos, we want more of that. I'll be with K & S tonight so call me when you wake. Lots of Love Sleep Well. xxx
ReplyDeleteWow. You girls are flat out! It all looks like so much fun. Please give my love to Georgio. XXX Dad
